Greetings!! Leadership Development in Region 5 aims to bring you national programs and region-based programs. If you have ideas, please share them! We are also proud to have students participating in planning region events through the Region 5 Leadership Development Committee (LDC). If you want to be a part of this awesome group, all you need to do is email Charlotte at region.5.leadership@apo.org - you do not need to be an officer in your chapter to participate! The committee meets for an hour monthly via internet chats - how cool is that!?

Alpha Phi Omega, National Service Fraternity
Region V Leadership Development Excellence Award

The Region V Leadership Development Excellence Award is an award meant to recognize chapters and brothers for improving and developing leadership within chapters and themselves, as well as sharing their knowledge of leadership with others on their campuses and in their communities. The goals of this award fit the Vision, Mission and Values of Alpha Phi Omega:

VISION To be recognized as the premier service-based leadership development organization.
MISSION Prepare campus and community leaders through service.
VALUES Develop leadership, promote friendship, and provide service.

We want to recognize chapters, brothers and pledges for everything done to build leadership. Inc ase you need some ideas to get your mind going, we have listed in the PDF file some ideas for potential leadership milestones. You do not have to do anything we've listed as a milestone, or you can stick to the list if you wish. The purpose behind each milestone is that with each one completed, you have enhanced your individual self and/or chapter just a bit more. You can then look back and see how far every small step brings you closer to the ultimate goal of being a good leader and in turn helping Alpha Phi Omega realize its vision.

Milestones completed (or scheduled if the event falls after the submission date) between August 1, 2009 and April 1, 2010 are eligible for awards. If submitting for the Pledge Award, milestones should be completed or scheduled in the pledge semseter. Submissions will be accepted between March 1, 2010 and April 1, 2010 and are due by midnight on April 1, 2010. Winners will be announced by April 16, 2010.

Click here to download the pdf containing these ideas of milestones and to see the application forms. Web forms will be available for submission on the region website on March 1, 2010.

Do you have great leadership programs in your chapter or section? Please share! The APO National Leadership Development Clearinghouse needs submissions! Please go to online to share ideas or to look around for something that can help your chapter or section. If you have ideas that you'd like the region to do, please share them with Charlotte! Besides the National Clearinghouse, we'd love to have ideas that are specific to our region available on our region website to share. We would also like to highlight leadership activities and programs through the website, so send Charlotte a blurb at region.5.leadership@apo.org about your program and you'll be APO famous!

APO IMPACT and APO IMPACT LIVE
Undoubtedly, officer training and transitions are a very important part of the security of a chapter. The National Office has great guides available via PDF to help walk you through the basic responsibilities and resources for every office in a chapter. Also provided are the APO IMPACT LIVE webinars to help everyone in a chapter from the pledges to the advisors learn a little bit more about various topics.

APO IMPACT LIVE Schedule

All about APO IMPACT and APO IMPACT LIVE

If you have questions about the webinars or officer transitions or just have comments or suggestions about the guides, please contact Charlotte at region.5.leadership@apo.org.

As you are transitioning to new officers at the end of a semester or school year, don't forget to do the Chapter Assessment and Planning Session (CAPS). Everyone in the chapter (as many as possible including advisors) should participate and the report from the session should be submitted online by the president or executive board. Have you submitted your CAPS this year?
