Retreats and Workshops
a series of its own workshops, including the forerunner to the Leadership Development Workshop (called then the Leadership Development Experience) and the Chapter President's Workshop. These national programs were intended to accomplish many of the same goals as the Region V events so the regional events were discontinued briefly. The first two retreats held were:

In 1983, the retreats were resumed. However, they now became known as Regional Staff retreats. Their primary purpose is to bring the various staffs together from throughout the region to discuss events, evaluate the past year, plan for the upcoming year, share ideas, and share fellowship. Although the Regional Retreats serve a valid purpose, Region V has also been in the forefront of developing other seminars and workshops to meet the needs of the brotherhood. Some of these include:
- APOKE: Alpha Phi Omega Knowledge Exchange
These retreats are held during convention year and are used to have the voting delegates or other members of the chapters and the various staffs get together to discuss pending legislation as well as to discuss committee assignments. In 1996, the Region held two APOKEs in order to allow for more chapters to participate. - COW: Chapter Operations Workshop
These are hosted by Sectional chairs or their staffs. They are used to help chapter officers and committees get together to discuss problems as well as to help chapters understand their rights and obligations under the national bylaws. - SAC: Sectional Advisory Committee
These are held as necessary by the chairs to call together their staffs. The purpose of the committees is to help ensure unity among the chapters as well as to promote uniformity of delivery of services to the chapters through the staffs. - SUMMIT: Sectional Unity Meeting Meant to Instill Teambuilding
An annual retreat first attempted in 1993 originally as part of the Regional Staff Retreat. The purpose was to have the sectional chairs meet alone prior to the start of the academic year to let them compare notes and establish communication links and ties. Subsequent SUMMITs have involved just the Sectional Chairs. - APORT: Alpha Phi Omega Regional Tour
A road trip conducted by Regional Staff. The purpose is to travel and visit as many chapters as possible during a three day weekend. - COD: Chapter Officer's Development
A week end meeting for chapter officers designed to instill and sharpen managerial and leadership skills. - L D DAZE: Leadership Development: Demonstrating and Achieving with Zeal and Enthusiasm
Additionally, Region V has attempted other programs to foster participation and the exchange of ideas between chapters. Two of these programs implemented in 1995 include the Region V Map Exchange and the Chapter Idea Exchange. The map exchange, overseen by the Regional Secretary, involved an exchange of campus maps between each of the chapters. This was to make it easier for chapters to find their way around when they road tripped to another campus. The Chapter Idea Exchange is an ongoing program. It is also maintained by the Regional Secretary. This project involves chapters submitting their "best" ideas for fund raising, service, leadership, brotherhood, and membership. The ideas are available for review by chapters at conferences or by contacting the the Regional Secretary
